My name is Evan LaVack and I am a rising senior at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts High School program. As an oboist at the school, not only do I play with other amazing musicians, but I also get incredible opportunities to perform and play with oboists around the world. I have excelled tremendously at the school and have learned a lot about myself and the oboe. One thing I have learned is not only is it important that the player be at their best, but the instrument as well. As the years go by, my current oboe fails to cooperate and play properly, which can hinder my progress and development. With college right around the corner and summer intensives creeping up, money is tight. Oboes are one of the most expensive instruments for their size and while I am lucky to have my current oboe, a new one would help me achieve my goals of getting into a top-notch conservatory. My professor says that I am rapidly getting to the point where my instrument is holding me back and that a better instrument would help me continue progressing as I have. This would allow me to really hone in on my oboe playing and grow to be the very best oboist I can be. Being a musician is tough, but it is what I love to do most, and plan to continue my studies into college. So please help out a financially challenged high school student that works hard and aspires to be a successful performing oboist!
