Support Evan's Medical Journey

Donation protected
To whom it may concern, I'm Evan Bowie, a senior at Ron Brown College Preparatory High School, on a journey to become a trauma surgeon and public health advocate. My passion for this path is rooted in advocacy, clinical experience, and a love for academics. I'm reaching out for support through fundraising to fulfill my purpose in providing services to others through medicine. The funds raised will enable me to further my education, attend EMT classes, and acquire essential resources such as medical supplies, books, and devices. Looking ahead, I plan to attend the National Academy of Future Physician Ceremony in Boston, Massachusetts, in June 2024, where I'll be honored with the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence. These funds will cover travel, supplies, and any additional fees associated with this event.
Unfortunately, at the age of nine, I lost my mother, Erika Bowie, to cardiomegaly, leaving me uncertain about my direction until 11th grade. In middle school, an impactful essay contest led me to advocate for issues prevalent in the black community, particularly the high death rate of women with heart disease and hypertension. I continue this advocacy, working with the American Association of Medical Colleges to raise awareness and improve health systems in 11th grade. My mission extends to enhancing schools' learning and health systems for individuals to have optimal chances of growing into their true potential. Over the years, I've realized that my passion for becoming a doctor goes beyond advocacy; I've developed a profound love for the clinical aspect of medicine. Assisting injured individuals during critical moments, whether rehabilitating athletes or providing hope in challenging situations, has been transformative.
This journey began in 10th grade when I became a sports medicine student athletic trainer. Now, in my third year, I've expanded my clinical knowledge by obtaining a first aid license in May 2023 and actively assisting peers in medical emergencies. As a George Washington University EMT student, my mission is to meet society's healthcare needs with excellence and quality research while sharing the realities of medicine through my perspective on the frontline.
My passion for medicine extends to the academic realm, driven by a deep appreciation for learning, uncovering the unknown, and embracing challenging coursework. I find excitement in learning how and why the body functions, enabling me to properly care for others.
Lastly, receiving the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence is an honor and privilege. This recognition speaks to my outstanding academic achievements, leadership potential, and determination to serve humanity in the field of
medicine. Your support and the funds raised will be an immense blessing in my pure pursuit of a career in medicine.Thank you for being a part of this journey.
Sincerely,
Evan Bowie
