Hey Everyone,
We are all coming together to help our son Evan fight this cancer and make sure he has an amazing and healthy future. Evan is an enthusiastic, energetic 9 year old with a penchant for well-timer humor and has amazing gamer skills, preferring to livestream on the PS4.
In late July 2021 Evan started to complain of an ongoing terrible headache, was nauseous daily, and uncharacteristically fatigued. After multiple E.R. and doctor visits with no logical diagnosis, anxiety was the assumed culprit of his symptoms. After a particularly severe vomiting episode, Evan was again brought to the E.R.- this time, the doctor on call recognized his symptoms, ordered the necessary tests, and confirmed that Evan had a large brain tumor above his brain stem. He was immediately helicoptered to Children's Hospital in New Orleans on August 10.
While at CHNOLA, Evan was diagnosed with having an aggressive Medulloblastoma subgroup M3, the worst possible prognosis. The amazing neuro team was able to remove the entire tumor easily, but Evan's cancer was found to have spread down his spinal cord. He was recovering from brain surgery and waiting for radiation and chemo therapy to begin when New Orleans was hit hard by Hurricane Ida on August 29.
Children's Hospital is practically a fortress and Evan has been in good hands. His team of doctors, nurses, and therapists have worked tirelessly to help Evan's condition improve, even with new challenges surfacing daily. He remains at CHNOLA to continue inpatient therapy and begin treatment but he is anxiously awaiting his return home to spend time with his parents, brothers, sister, and large extended family. It's a long road ahead but Evan has a strong, determined mentality to work hard to recover and "kick cancer's butt."
As his dad, I am trying to take care of everything I can, with the help of my amazing significant other Taylor. This whole situation has been so emotionally and financially devastating. It has been heartbreaking to watch our independent little man struggle with his health while we remain limited in our ability to help him. We are starting a support fund to help take care of financial obstacles and surprises life keeps throwing our way. We would be greatful for well-wishes and prayers for Evan or other types of help as well: meals in the future when we return home; quality time or fun outings scheduled with our older kids; feed our pets while we are at the hospital; colorful and funny letters and pictures for Evan to read and hang on his inpatient room, etc. ANY help will be greatly appreciated.
We love you all and hope everyone is well.
I will add more details as we go further along.
