Evan’s Battle
Donation protected
Hey everyone.
It is with the heaviest, most rock bottom heart that I write this. Our sweet little Evan has cancer.
He started with a low grade fever on Monday (3-4-24) that we thought nothing of. It continued again Tuesday when we noticed his back molars were coming in so we attributed it to that. By Thursday (3-7-15) we knew something else was going on when his fever suddenly spiked to 105, and his color was off. We got him in to our family Dr, where I thought for sure he had strep and we’d be sent home with an antibiotic. We were then sent to the E.R for blood tests, and then quickly transferred to The University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Today (3-8-24) Evan has officially been diagnosed with b-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
The good news is that this is the most common childhood cancer. It has a 90% success rate. We KNOW Evan is going to be just fine. The bad news is that he’s really, really sick. In the past 24 hrs his little body has already gone through so much, and he’s even already received his first chemo treatment (a spinal injection while he was under anesthesia for a few other things). He has a heart murmur we’ll be keeping an eye on, too.
It’s a lot. The overwhelm is almost quite literally suffocating. There was literally nothing, no other symptoms prior to this past week. The experts tell us that’s how this happens- they are fine, energetic, completely themselves with no cause for concern. Then they aren’t.
We’ve had family step up so hard to support us this past day, but it’s going to be a long, hard road. The treatment plan is 2.5 years- yes YEARS, long.
Our other kids are in shock. We all are. These next days looks like a hospital stay, and getting him feeling a little better, at least. Then, we bring him home for outpatient treatment and kick this cancer’s ass!!!!!
I’m asking for help in this. I don’t know exactly how yet, my mind is a mess. But for our immediate needs we know Mark will be off work for at least the hospital stay, so we’re asking for donations for that. We live an hour away from the hospital and we’re both traveling back and forth to switch on and off who’s staying with Evan. And we’ll of course be having our deductible to meet for insurance. And for right now, that’s all I know. I’ll include my Venmo here (because go fund me keeps a portion of donations) and a go fund me that I’ll update regularly.
Thank you guys. Please pray for our guy. ❤️
