On Thursday, November 4th, 2021, 29 year old, Evan tested positive Covid. The following day, he was admitted to Wheeling Hospital’s pandemic unit on 6L of oxygen. By that evening, he had been advanced to 60L high flow oxygen. Anxiety was not on his side, as he is a healthy guy that has never been admitted to the hospital. Being in isolation was scary, no visitors allowed and nurses just ran in and out because they had other patients to care for as well. On Sunday morning, he was transferred to ICU for bipap therapy and precedex (an anti-anxiety medication). After 3 days in ICU with minimal improvement, the decision was made to life flight Evan to WVU Ruby Memorial to be placed on ECMO (a heart and lung bypass system). Early Wednesday, November 9th, he was intubated, sedated and life flighted to WVU. When the doctors were inserting the ECMO, they found a massive clot in his right atrium of his heart and multiple clots in his veins. The doctor said that the next 3 days were very crucial. As of today, November 13th, Evan is still in critical condition and fighting for his life. He’s made leaps and bounds but still has a long road to recovery ahead. Any donations will be utilized to assist his wife, who is 6 months pregnant with their first child while she stands by his side during this trying time and has to take time off of work. The donations will go directly to medical bills, expenses, food/gas and other family needs that are accumulating over this most difficult time. We believe in the power of prayer. Your prayers for Evan, Gabby, Baby J, as well as his family are the ultimate gift.
