Evan Mayone Fund, Previously - Pilot Scholarship

Donation protected
UPDATE, Sunday 1-1-2023: It quite literally breaks our hearts to let you know that Evan died Thursday morning (12-29-22). The medical team at Boston Children’s Hospital made sure that Evan was comfortable, it was peaceful. Sophia, Harrison, Mark and I surrounded Evan and each other with comfort and love. Our revised plan is to use these funds for funeral costs, for a celebration of Evan’s life as well as donations to causes that were important to Evan.

Peace, love, and light to you.

ORIGINAL (11-1-22) Our names are Kimberly and Mark Mayone. Our son, Evan, is a very remarkable and brave teenager. He has been in the hospital for just over 2 months. He is a sophomore at South Portland High School in Maine. Evan got his driver's license in July and his first job as a doorman at The Portland House. This past fall, everything came to a screeching halt.

On November 1st, he was diagnosed with B-Cell ALL , a type of leukemia. This diagnosis added to an already complicated medical profile. At birth, Evan was diagnosed with EI , an extremely rare, life affecting skin disorder. Evan continues to amaze us as he navigates a whole new set of medical challenges. During his first weeks of chemotherapy, he had a rare but very serious reaction to one of the chemotherapy medications and developed pancreatitis. Evan spent 35 days in the pediatric intensive care unit in the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. We were able to celebrate the New Year in the regular pediatric unit and are unsure of when we will be headed home. He builds a bit of strength of everyday working towards just managing EI and leukemia. Covid, of course, complicates everything.

We are so very grateful for Evan's strength and our amazing support network of family, friends, neighbors, employers and even people who we have never met who have who prayed for Evan, cooked for us, delivered groceries, offered financial support and walked our dogs.

In the past few years, Evan has really developed an interest in fixed wing, commercial aviation and hopes to become a commercial pilot. He has taken some initial flying lessons. Prior to the cancer diagnosis, Evan had a plan to work towards attaining his private pilot's license before going to aviation school. We would like to give Evan something to look forward to following this long hospital stay. Thank you for considering a donation to Evan's flight training scholarship fund.
