“Our Evaliah has been a medical mystery since before birth. Born at 35 weeks by emergency c-section, she spent two months in the NICU struggling to gain weight and feed on her own. She left with a feeding tube, which doctors hoped would be temporary.

Despite therapy and countless doctor visits, eating and keeping food down remained a challenge, often complicated by recurring respiratory infections. At one year old, she was diagnosed with epilepsy, which made her other conditions worse. Between Mission and Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, she spent much of her life in and out of the hospital.

By late 2024, her health began declining further. She couldn’t hold food down, became dehydrated, and required frequent hospital stays. In April 2025, doctors switched her to a different feeding tube, but her struggles continued. On May 17, she was admitted again with more complications. After many tests and treatments, doctors determined there was no cure. Her breathing muscles were shutting down, and comfort became our top priority.

On September 7, 2025, Evaliah passed away peacefully. Though her time here was far too short, she filled every moment with strength, sweetness, and love. She fought harder than most people do in a lifetime in just 4 years.” - Jose & Destini
