GALAVANTE IN THE WORLD IS A NON-PROFIT THAT IS ASSISTING IN THE RESETTLEMENT AND EVACUATION OF WOMEN FROM AFGHANISTAN. WE PROVIDE EVACUATION FLIGHTS, HOUSING, BASIC NECESSITIES, JOB PLACEMENT, LEGAL AID AND MENTORSHIP TO GRADUATES OF THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF AFGHANISTAN.
DEAR FRIENDS:
You are receiving this message from a group of philanthropists and humanitarians who have joined Christine Drinan, a Guest Lecturer at the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF). . We would like to invite you to a private fundraiser for the women and student alumna from AUAF, whose entire worlds have been shattered by the recent events in Afghanistan. You know us as your friends, but we are also global citizens who care so deeply about these innocent girls, students and their families who are in grave danger in Afghanistan. On a sobering note, this is a private fundraiser because the Taliban is monitoring GoFundMe pages and trying to ascertain the extortion and hostage potential of at-risk Afghans. It is imperative you not forward this onto anyone or share any information in this message. Christine and/or your friend who has provided the link, will be happy to provide select access for your friends who may want to help. This is the tragic situation of Afghanistan under the Taliban regime.
THE TRAGIC REALITY OF AFGHANISTAN UNDER THE TALIBAN
For so many who are watching what is happening in Afghanistan right now, the reality is far worse than what is in the media. The brutalization of the Taliban has only begun. They have rounded up names of unmarried women from the ages of 12 to 45 and they will be assigned for marriage to Taliban soldiers. Women have been instructed to wear the burqa, not to go to work and girls have been taken out of school. Women have virtually disappeared from everyday life. However this is not the worst of what is to come. This is what will happen to those who are lucky.
THE GROUP OF WOMEN YOU WILL DIRECTLY HELP
There have been reports of Taliban searching for U.S. "conspirators" especially those who studied at the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF). As reported in the NY Times, one of the first places the Taliban took over when they entered Kabul was AUAF's state of the art campus that has educated thousands of Afghans over 15+ years. The Taliban posted messages on social media stating this is where America had trained infidel “wolves” to corrupt the minds of Muslims. This is not the first time the Taliban has targeted AUAF. In 2016 they attacked the campus and killed and wounded hundreds of students. But you know what happened after the attack? Applications increased to AUAF. Afghans were even more determined to get their education to one day be in a position to fight the Taliban. If these kids were in government today, the Taliban would have stood no chance whatsoever.
The Taliban are actively hunting the female students. What will happen to the women and their families when they are found will be unspeakable. Death will be the best alternative but there will be dispicable acts that we cannot even write about. This is a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions.
WHAT YOUR DONATION GOES TO
We are raising money in this closed fundraiser to go to the evacuation, housing, job placement, food, clothing and continued mentorship and support of the students of AUAF. We have a committed group that has put the infrastructure in place for these deserving students and their families. We need your help.
This is a different foundation. We focus on one humanitarian project at a time, and 100% of anything raised will go directly and transparently to these efforts. There are over 480+ alumni with families plus 600+ students. The University will look after current students but that is where most of their resources will be allocated. Additionally, those university resources will not be allocated to clothing and personal necessities. These kids left with nothing to their name except for two outfits. All the banks have frozen cash withdrawals so they have not even $1 to their name. We intend to be the gap to fill any of these courageous students' needs.
SPECIFIC COSTS
We anticipate that students and alumni will need a helping hand for the first 6-12 months to successfully be able to resettle.
The Galavante in the World Foundation has been set up in response to take in funds that will do the following focused on Afghanistan:
1. Help women including Parisa and Neptune, and 15 other girls made the treacherous 14 hour road journey through Taliban checkpoints to flee to Pakistan. They have no place to stay and we will fund their housing and evacuation flights to either the U.S. once visas clear or to Doha, where the school has set up a satellite campus. These numbers are increasing by the day as more students reach out. Cost: $2,500/student.
2. Help Lima evacuate to Uzbekistan. We have an increasing number of students who are applying for Uzbekistan visas that while the border is closed to Afghans, have $900 visas + $1,500 in temporary resettlement expenses of students. This is also a border country and a treacherous and dangerous proposition but the women are desperate. We are not encouraging them to do this but if they get to the border, we will be there for them on the other side.
3. Help Sara resettle in the U.S. An alumni student who escaped to Rome who will need resettlement cost assistance for housing, food, visa assistance and other incidentals until she can get on her feet, get a work visa approved and find a job. This will also include a plane ticket should she choose to come to the U.S. if she is not able to stay in Rome: $25,000.
4. Help Masouma in Kyiv. A student who evacuated herself and after a week of the most dire condition at the airport, talked her way onto a flight with the Wall Street Journal and is now stranded in Kyiv. Her temporary resettlement and her evacuation flight costs will be $5,000 until we can get her to the United States.
5. Help Sediqa, who was granted an SIV to the U.S. We additionally have approximately 400 other women on their way. Resettlement costs in the U.S. for one year - $25,000/student
6. Mental health counseling that will not entirely be covered by pro-bono hours: $1,500/student
7. Food costs. $4,800/student for the year until they can get on their feet
8. Clothing and personal costs per student. Each of these students has a backpack with two outfits and nothing else. $3,500/student
9. Legal costs that will not be covered by pro-bono hours: $4,500 per student
10. Pocket money until the students can get on their feet and find jobs: $3,500/student
11. Ongoing assistance to students for healthcare and other emergencies: $3,500/student
12. Fund Private Evacuation Flights. The evacuation and flights will cost $1,200,000 per flight. It is not certain we will be able to arrange but if you are able to contribute, please contact us privately so we may discuss.
If additional funds are raised, these girls have younger sisters, brothers and family members who we can assist to keep their families together. We will also fund scholarships for the girls and students to complete their education. Whatever the case is, 100% of these funds will go towards the direct safety, evacuation and well-being of the students.
