I'm a fourth year medical student at Al-Azhar university. I was so excited for the month of October because I was supposed to start doing medical rotations, and start practicing what I'd learned for the past 3 years. Sadly October didn't turn out the way I wished. For the past 5 months our lives have been put on hold and everyday we wonder when will the clock tick again. My house and my university were destroyed, and along with them collapsed every dream I had of becoming a doctor.

What my university looks like now

When the war started me and my family of 12 stayed in our house for only 3 days and then the first displacement happened. Our entire block was threatened and forced to evacuate. Everyone carried their previously prepared backpacks and left the house except for me, I was looking for my cat who was hiding in fear of the bombing sounds. I searched the entire house for her, crying and calling out her name as loud as I could but she was too afraid to answer. When I finally did find her I carried her in my arms and I ran. We fled ,on foot, to my grandparents' house. We stayed there for one night, through which we couldn't sleep from the sounds of the airstrikes.
The next morning my grandparents' block was also threatened and we were displaced for the second time. This time we had to run an even longer distance; Afraid, tired, crying, carrying our heavy backpacks and crossing destroyed streets where massacres had happened. We went to my uncle's house. Our second night there we woke up to phone calls ordering us to leave to the south, the third displacement. We head south, intending to get there also on foot since we don't have a car. We had a lot to carry, including a toddler. I couldn't carry my cat all that distance so I was forced to leave her with my uncle's family. 2 months later when we met them again they told me the cat ran away after I left and they never found her. Thus I lost my best friend for the past two years.
Me and my cat, Sukkar (Arabic for sugar)

We arrived at a displacement shelter in khan Yunis. All 12 of us stayed in a tiny room for more than 3 months. We slept on the floor and we couldn't turn around in our sleep because of how small the room was. Most nights we slept in tears. My brothers had to stand in line for hours to buy us bread and then come back empty handed. They had to stand in line for hours for everything including food, and clean drinking water. The shelter was humiliating and suffocating. In the displacement shelter my sister in law gave birth and we became 13. In the shelter we received news of losing close family members whose loss made our suffering unbearable. We received news of the damage that has befallen our home, the home that my parents spent half their lives to build. The home that we lived in our entire lives. The home that brought us together in the holidays, and contained all our happy memories, the home that we fled to when the world was too harsh on us, our comfort zone and happy place. Now turned to ruins.

Our home before and after the war:

A building in the shelter we're staying at was bombed and a few people died. 2 days later, the shelter was forced to evacuate. The fourth displacement, and probably the harshest. It made us feel how helpless we are, and it made us remember how beautiful our life was before escaping death became all it revolved around. They started throwing gas bombs at the shelter to force the people to leave. We left to rafah, not knowing where we'd go there. When I asked my mother where we were going she said we'll have to sleep in the street, she said to pray that it doesn't rain that night. Thankfully, a friend of my brother's let us stay in their tent untill we find a place to go. It rained so much that night I can't imagine What it would have been like if we slept in the street. That night we didn't sleep because the rain crept in from below the sides of the tent. After 4 days there we moved to a tent we made. And we might be displaced again after that.

Me and my family in the tent. Our only shelter from the rain, the cold, and the bombings.

At this point we are exhausted. Death seems so peaceful compared to the life we're forced to live. We miss our ordinary lives. For 5 months our entire lives have been put on hold. Our dreams, our education, our futures are destroyed. We lost so much of what we hold dear, and so many of whom we love. The situation in Gaza is no longer suitable for life. Your donations will not only help us escape genocide, but they will also help us continue to dream, to laugh, to love, and to make new memories instead of those we lost. Your donations will help me achieve my dream of becoming a doctor. Your donations will give all of my family the ability to dream again.

You're donations will be used to cover the following:
30000$ towards the Rafah border crossing fees
10000$ travel expenses, rent, and living expenses
10000$ tuition fees to finish my medical degree
