Assalamualaikum. We are a group of Brothers from Birmingham UK (Shakil Mohammed, Asim Ali, Ataf Sabir & Yaser Mahmood) who know Fares Khalil through our local masjid and we are looking to support his family. Fares entered the UK as a Palestinian refugee and we have known him for a year and a half. We are aiming to support the studies of his brother Mahmoud Khalil, a Medical student in Gaza who has been unable to continue his studies since the October 7th attack took place. We are also aiming to support the family in rebuilding their home as well financial support for their day-to-day cost of living.
The funds will be used for the following:
- Support the completion of studies of Mahmoud Khalil in becoming a Doctor.
- Rebuilding of their family home which was blown up.
- Money for food and general cost of living as they are unable to support themselves due to the issues in Gaza currently.
Please take a moment to read Mahmoud's story. Donations are also Zakat eligible. Donations will be sent to the bank account of Mahmoud's father.
My name is Mahmoud Khalil. A 20 year medical student. I'd like to share my dreams and aspirations which were born in a restricted area known as Gaza. Despite the challenges, I strive to pursue my goals.
I'm a young medical student male from the Gaza Strip. I was supposed to be in my 4th year at Al-Azhar University, carrying on my dreams to be a good doctor, striving to make a mark in my field all over the world. But things don't always happen as planned.
Before the seventh of October, we had a beautiful house that represented our past, present, and future. It held the memories of our childhood, with each corner symbolizing a warm space, reflecting our dreams, aspirations, and our right to a dignified life. In this house, I had a beautiful, quiet and warm room where I had my tools and books, everything I needed to continue my educational journey. Simply put, we had the most basic human rights without exerting any effort to obtain them (water, electricity, security, shelter, education, food). After this date, everything changed when the brutal war began. Our lives were turned upside down when a missile launched by Zionist occupation aircraft destroyed the adjacent house, causing significant damage to our home and shattering our lives.
Imagine sitting in your house while rubble from your home and the neighbouring house rains down on you, and death surrounds you. Many members of my family and I were injured, marking the beginning of an endless displacement journey in the genocide practiced by the Zionist occupation. The journey of displacement began by moving to relatives' houses in another area, leaving behind the destroyed and demolished house. It didn't last long until the occupation demanded that we move to the south and leave the north. In the south, our house became a tent lacking all the necessities of life. Simple things became difficult, requiring significant physical and financial effort. Water was obtained by walking long distances, electricity was a dream, and food was canned goods obtained by standing in long lines at UNRWA schools. Imagine losing the right to access a bathroom, waiting in long lines just to enter. Imagine.
Instead of pursuing dreams on school benches and sitting peacefully at home, one now seeks to provide the most basic necessities. College students now have greater responsibilities than they can bear or afford. What exacerbated the destruction of the future was the occupation's destruction of the universities where we were studying. Now, the fate of thousands of students, including myself, is uncertain. So far, I have lost shelter, the place where I learned, some relatives, friends, and tools that helped me in my educational journey. The money that once helped me complete my education has been spent on providing the basic needs of the family, which are fundamentally inadequate for education.
I wish to complete my studies and create a better future for my family in Gaza. Please help me. Any donation made will be greatly appreciated, regardless of how small it may be. It all adds up. Please consider share my campaign widely with your family, friends, work, and social networks. Social media is a powerful tool and with everyone's help I can fulfil my dreams and desires and create a future for myself and my family. I will be forever grateful for your kind assistance in this difficult time and will forever keep you and your in my duas.
Thank you again for standing with us in solidarity and making a positive impact on the lives of those affected.
Jazak'Allah Khair.
