Help Eva and Teddy recover from Bone Marrow Transplant

This is my son (left) and his best friend Teddy (right). Precious, vivacious, wild, four-year-olds. And while all kids enjoy dressing up like their favourite super hero, few can actually hold the title more than in their imagination, but Teddy can. You see, Teddy’s gorgeous little sister Eva has a rare genetic condition called LRBA Deficiency. This has meant that she’s lived her life so far undergoing weekly injections of immunosuppressants, being very immunocompromised and also at high risk of acquiring other serious autoimmune illnesses. Eva requires a bone marrow transplant in the hope of a cure. Unlike many other patients, Eva was lucky enough to find the perfect bone marrow donor match… her big brother Teddy. Not many kids get to say they’re a real life super hero, all before the age of five.

Teddy and Eva’s parents are up against it. Dan will need to take a significant amount of time off work to care for both little ones. Alice has some weeks leave up her sleeve which may cover Eva’s hospital stay. Teddy will need time to recover after donating and Eva will need months in isolation (no daycare allowed) as she will be at high risk of infection. Before the transplant even occurs, these coming weeks will have so much additional stress as the family navigate so many other complexities of Eva’s condition and the side effects of medical care. Soon Eva will commence other significant medical interventions. She will have a central line inserted in order to undergo conditioning - that is the administration of immunosuppressants and chemotherapy - in the lead up to the transplant. Writing it down in simple words alone truly feels like it is overwhelmingly understating the enormity of what they are all going through right now.

Dan and Alice are kind, amazing people raising wonderful kids - the kind of people the world needs more of. To ease the stress of them not being able to work, I am asking you wonderful souls to help me to allow them to focus on their two gorgeous kids during such a challenging time.
