Our dear friend and brother John Corey Phillips departed this life May 24, 2017. Corey was kind and genuine, with a heart of gold. Corey was funny, playful, and had an infectious spirit. Corey enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Corey was caring, sensitive and willing to lend a hand.
Corey is survived by his parents, John and Pam Phillips; sister, Paige and Clint Wesley; grandparents, Dave and Dolly Roberts; uncles and aunts, Rick and Pat Phillips, Tim and Alison Cockrell, Gray and April Roberts; devoted girlfriend, Stephanie Borman.
Corey's life impacted so many. Fond memories include Gordon Baseball at Rockwood Park, camping adventures at RIR and Martinsville Speedway, and all the experiences from relationships associated with Monacan High School. Corey loved OBX and Cape Hatteras and spent lots of time hanging with friends, driving on the beach and fishing. Corey was certainly at home when the 4Runner or Chevy Silverado were parked beachside with tunes blasting. Close friends will remember Corey as the best air guitar player that ever lived. When John Anderson or Stevie Ray Vaughn lit up the airwaves, Corey could bring a crowd to its feet.
Though we are lost and heartbroken without Corey, we can show our love for him by helping to lighten some of the burden on those he loved. We are asking for a monetary donation to benefit his parents, John and Pam Phillips, during this difficult time. The donation will help pay costs associated with Corey’s passage and eternal rest; and for any other future debt, expense, or fund that may arise. God bless and thanks on behalf of all of us who loved Corey.
