UK Wild Otter Trust Winter Fundraiser
You can make a difference by donating today to UK Wild Otter Trust. We are a wildlife conservation charity specialising in the Eurasian otter.
2021 has been our busiest year so far, with over 30 cubs rescued by the end of November (usually we rescue around 10)! We are also facing a major unforeseen increase in the price of the fish we purchase to feed our rescued cubs and our two resident otters who can't be released into the wild. This fundraiser is to help take the pressure off our accounts during this very busy period and to ensure we can continue our vital work. We run entirely on volunteers from our founder and chair to our rescued otter cub carers. So all money raised will go straight into helping out with our important work.
We are fundraising for £3000 to help cover the costs of several important aspects of our work including:
- 2 months worth of feeding our otters (£840)
- Vet bills (£500)
- Planning application fees for our new rehabilitation site (£465)
- Site clearance and disposal from our old site that we were given notice from (£1000)
This 10kg of fish feeds 4 otters for 1 day and costs approximately £42. (The otters get 4 chicks each also).
Meet some of the rescued cubs we are currently caring for:
Yoyo and Willow
Yoyo was found in a village near Yeovil and Willow was found on a river bank in the Forest of Dean. In August 2021, at around 4 months old they were introduced to each other. Watch the video below to see them meeting for the first time.
Willow and Yoyo are now inseparable, here are the girls pictured on the 2nd December.
Amy, Stevie and Becky
These 3 sisters arrived to us at the end of October after being found in Lincolnshire. These 3 siblings only weigh 612g, 608g, 508g. As of December they're doing well and gaining weight. We have had to split them up as one of the sisters was getting bullied by the other two. So Amy and Stevie are at our new centre together and Becky is in expert hands also. Soon she will hopefully be introduced to another rescue.
We will care for these sisters until they are ready to be released back into the wild and will continue to monitor them once they are released.
