Eunice’s Journey to walking again
Donation protected
My name is Eunice Flower-McNeal. I suffered a spinal cord injury during childbirth 13 years ago. November 2008 I walked in the hospital to have a baby and never walked again. Suffered complications after epidural was administered, had to have emergency C-section shortly after. I was throwing up and gasping for air and later awoke after having the baby and 1 hour post surgery they realized I couldn't walk, at first they said it was normal and the epidural hadn’t worn off. An hour later there was still no feeling in my legs and they sent me to Greenville Vidant Medical center by ambulance. Once I arrived they had no idea what had happened to me and couldn't even understand why I would be in this condition from having a baby once at vidant. They were very concerned and confused about how this was happening. The next thing I knew I was in vidant hospital for 1 full month away from my children and family. During these two months I endured hours of therapy, many confused doctors and having to be away from my children. This was a very trying for me, even depressive. After leaving the hospital I returned back home to a life I’d never expected. From the day I got home I pretty much had to make accommodations to the house such as wider door frames, a flat shower, a lot of construction had to be done to accommodate my new norm. From building ramps , to having to get a vehicle that had hand controls. Even this was not an easy process, it was very hard and sometime depressing to have to depend on others when this was never the life I signed up for. Since the accident I have been to many doctors and many say the same thing, this could have been prevented. 13 years later I am a mom of 3, my youngest Jalyn is now 13 years old and this has always been his norm. I have not allowed anything to stop me from getting life done and accomplishing the goals I set out. I am very active in my community and church! I am a degreed seamstress and a licensed hairstylist ! I have had to work a lot harder with my hands but still refuse to be another sad story. My life has been a miracle and miracles will continue to take place. #eunicewillwalkagain
the procedure I am raising money cost $57,000 in Columbia, it is a process where they will go in and pretty much replace the damaged cells with stem cells. This procedure has helped a lot of people with spinal cord injuries and I am hopeful for the same results!
