'You give and take away, You give and take away, our hearts will choose to say, Lord, blessed be your name.'
About 10 years ago (December 2015), after a relatively brief but brave battle with cancer, my first wife, Ibukunoluwa, slept and went to be with the Lord. Even though Ibukun was not perfect, she was beautiful, brave, strong, charming and confident. Her smile radiated warmth, love and care. Ibukun loved the Lord, was very kind, friendly and always ready to help. We miss her but her memory lives on.
In remembering who Ibukun was and what she stood for, one of my children, Tobi and I are participating in a local 5k parkrun for 10 weeks, raising money for charity, with Toyin, my eldest child, partaking in the concluding parkrun in December.
Fifty percent of money raised will go to Cancer Research UK, while the remaining fifty percent will be split equally between Utange Orphans Charity, a mission to orphaned children in Utange, Kenya and Ama Bethel orphanage home foundation in Adamawa, Nigeria.
Two songs - "He's Been Good" by Ron Kenoly and "I Stand Amazed In The Presence" by Charles Gabriel - sum up our testimony in these 10 years. And God, being good, has surrounded us with good people. We look back and our hearts are full of gratitude to God for his enduring love, peace and faithfulness; we look forward, and we are filled with hope for the future. We remain grateful to our friends and families for standing by us.
Thank you everyone, for your prayers and support in one way or another during this journey. We especially say thank you to Bromham Baptist Church family, the Avus, the Osinugas, the Barkases, the Ellises, the Olaoyes, the Aitons, the Akinwandes and the Ummavasees. We are grateful to everyone for your love and support, and pray that God will continually bless and keep you all.
Please keep on praying for us and all who have experienced bereavement, especially those who may be experiencing a recent loss of a loved one. You may please share the link with friends and families, and thank you again for your kindness and generous giving. May Ibukun's soul continue to find rest, amen.
