In February 2023, Stacy was diagnosed with a pituitary adenoma, a benign tumor on her pituitary gland. She began medication soon after, but after three years of trial and error, the side effects have become increasingly difficult to manage and have significantly impacted her quality of life. Her most recent MRI showed the tumor beginning to threaten important structures in her brain.
Surgery to remove it is now the next step. The good news is that this is a routine procedure for her medical team, with a strong likelihood of a full recovery. Her surgery is scheduled for March 9th, followed by about two months of recovery before she can return to work.
As a self-employed hairstylist, Stacy does not have access to medical leave, disability insurance, or paid time off. She was in the process of applying for disability insurance while waiting on routine lab work, with no indication anything was wrong- the same day she received a call with the diagnosis. Because it was then considered a preexisting condition, her coverage was denied, and any future policy would permanently exclude anything related to it.
This fund will help cover the portion of surgery not covered by insurance, along with everyday living expenses during recovery such as rent, utilities, groceries, insurance premiums, and follow-up care so she can focus fully on healing.
Stacy is someone who consistently shows up for others and cares deeply for her community, bringing people together, and finding joy in small moments. Asking for help doesn’t come easily, especially at a time when so many are facing their own hardships.
If you’re in a position to contribute or share this page, it would truly mean so much. If giving isn't possible, your encouragement and support are deeply appreciated.
As you can imagine, all of this has been a lot for her to manage, so if you reach out and she’s unable or slow to respond, please know that your outreach is taken to heart.
