(UPDATE) Maggie has had an emergency pyometra surgery performed on 8/7. She is resting comfortably at home and showing signs of improvement. She is eating! Our current medical total stands at $4,597.76
My name is Hailey. On July 20th 2025, my cat Maggie started showing signs of conjunctivitis, which is an infection of the eye. At her appointment five days later, she was prescribed eye drops and we thought she’d be healthy in no time. Only three days later, she had lost all willingness to eat, drink, move, or open her eyes.
We have since been to two more vet appointments, one of which involved injectable antibiotics and anti-nausea treatments, the other of x-rays and appetite stimulating prescriptions.
As of August 5th (Maggie’s 9th birthday, ) I have given $1,400 to multiple methods of trying to find what is wrong with my Maggie. She is still not eating, drinking, or acting at all herself.
Maggie is an intact female. Concerns of possible uterine infection (Pyometra) cannot be ruled out due to a slight enlargement of her uterus on her x-ray images. Pyometra can cause rupture of the uterus, which would result in a painful death. Original concern of Lymphoma (a common cancer in cats,) has been mitigated, but not eradicated. Our current options for treatment rely on emergency care. And the options we’ve been given are costly. We can have an ultrasound performed to get a specific diagnosis if one specific organ is at fault, or we can commit to an exploratory surgery- where a doctor will search her entire body for any cause of illness, including her reproductive organs, while she is sedated and in surgery. The ultrasound’s looking around $400+, and the exploratory ranging from $1,500-$10,000+.
We have already exacerbated funds. We cannot afford to pay our rent while also paying to save our kitty. And we feel like we have just barely dipped our feet in. Our CareCredit is almost maxed out. We are asking for help to make our Maggie feel better, and we can’t do it without help.
If you are able to donate, I appreciate you more than you’ll ever know. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing.
Please help me get my Maggie feeling like herself. She has such a long life yet to live.
