Don't Let Kelly's Pub Slip Through the Cracks!

Donation protected
Robert and Rhonda Hanson bought Kellys Pub and Wine Bar   in June of 2018 with the dream of creating a warm, safe, and friendly atmosphere for our community to enjoy. Before long, we all knew that they "are by far the friendliest bar!"

Starting a new business is always full of risk, hard work, and dedication, but for this particular venture, the challenges have been extraordinary.

Shortly after they took ownership of the business, the Carr Fire hit an threw our  community into turmoil. During this time when business was slow, Robert & Rhonda began to realize the need for a more prominent location due to their current location being in a dark alley with no Hilltop signage. They began to explore their options. They worked their regular jobs by day and worked at the pub at night.  Slowly they built their customer base and began hosting events and live music every weekend. These events became their best revenue generator!

Fast forward to early 2020. The shutdowns came and they were closed for 5 months with no income from the Pub. This, while Rhonda was battling breast cancer and going through chemotherapy and Robert was having additional knee surgeries. Their landlord would not work with them at all, rent was due on the 1st with no grace period.

When they reopened with capacity and seating restrictions in place (outdoor seating only) they knew we would not survive at the current location with the current landlord much longer.

They applied for PPP & EIDL and were we were told that it not be forgivable because they use a staffing agency and do not have payroll. They went to the bank for a business loan and the bank said they are not loaning to bars, restaurants or entertainment type businesses at this time.

Sadly, this small business is slipping through the cracks.

Thankfully they have found the perfect new location on Hilltop Avenue with greater outdoor seating capacity, more space indoors, and better visibility. They are putting everything that they have into the needed improvements on the new space and are currently making this move happen.

But they are in need of our help before they can open.

Robert & Rhonda have been faithful servants of this community through their many volunteer roles with organizations like the Redding and Anderson Chambers, Kool April Nites, Relay For Life, and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, not to mention their countless "Pint Night" fundraisers.

NOW IS THE TIME that we can give back.

We have seen this community rally around those that are in need of help and we will see it again. Times are tough for many of us, but if you are able, any donation of any size would mean the world to Robert & Rhonda. Everyone that knows the Hansons knows that they are hardworking, generous, caring, people that are always serving others.
