Meet Eugene Michael Orcullo. He is my youngest brother and, best
friend, residing in the Philippines. He is funny, neat-freak, computer-geek (ask him any computer problem you have, and he'll find a way to fix it!),cat-loving,most loyal and honest friend you'll ever know. He is independent and treats my daughters like his own. He is good-looking,
responsible, hard-working, and would have been the best husband
and father, yet, he chose to live single.
He held a management position at Iqor Philippines.
Then Covid hit. The country has the longest lockdown recorded in the world. He was one of the millions who was sent home without pay nor government support. He drained his savings, paying daily expenses
and monthly bills. He was fortunate to get hired by Amazon
Philippines, in October 2020, not knowing that within months, he
will need to be on medical and indefinite leave. By May of 2021,
while grieving from our mother's loss, 2 months prior, he was
diagnosed with Stage 4 Recto-Sigmoid Cancer with small tumors also found in his liver.
He started his first series of chemo in July of last year
and finished his third series in April of this year. That's a total of 9
dosages, amounting to $1900 USD /treatment, plus medications, follow-up visits, including CT scans and miscellaneous hospital fees. We have
been fortunate to be able to cover these expenses for him.
Unfortunately, he has a long way to go and is now needing a
colostomy to divert his bowel movement.
Due to the nature of his condition, he constantly suffers from pain, lack of sleep, abdominal spasms, bowel incontinence, bloating and lack of appetite.
He lost significant weight and is now having difficulty tolerating solid
foods. He will need this surgery as soon as possible, to recover and
have a better quality of life.
We grew up believing that people work hard for their money and
asking for financial help is unacceptable. This past week, he
convinced himself that there are people in this world who would
love to help. Instead of keeping to himself, he decided not to be afraid by reaching out. He agreed that other than his family,
he needed to make his condition known. And just like I told him, this is the time in his life when he needs a friend, real friends...who will be
there for him in many different ways.
On behalf of my brother, I want to send my heartfelt gratitude for
those who already sent their support through hugs, food delivery,
words of encouragement and monetary.
I ask every one of you to make him feel that he is not alone in his
journey.
Funds from this campaign will be used for his surgery and other
ongoing medical expenses.
