My amazing father, Eugene Alsip, is fighting the battle of his life against Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. He originally learned of his diagnosis in October 2022. After undergoing chemotherapy, he achieved a brief remission. Unfortunately, in early August 2023, he and my mother learned that his cancer has already returned with a vengeance, spreading throughout multiple areas of his body. Eugene is only 68 years old and my family and I aren’t ready to lose him!
My Dad grew up in Holland, Michigan, where he was employed as a Plant Supervisor at Allen Extruders for 19 years, but more importantly as #1 Dad to my younger brother, Michael, and I. Whether he was playing with us outside or reading to us before bed, we always knew we were the most important thing in his life. He also loved riding his Harley, hunting and fishing in beautiful West Michigan. Sadly, in 1994, he suffered his second motorcycle accident while on his beloved Harley which this time left him disabled and unable to work – something which had always been a part of who he was. But he was also a compassionate, caring man who would give the shirt off his back for a friend in need.
In 1994, while in Drasco, Arkansas helping a friend in need, my parents fell in love with the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, and with a particularly beautiful property where they decided to make their new home. Over his years in Arkansas, he has learned to love life and define himself differently in things outside of work and being a Dad to young children. Now, he enjoys visiting his 4 grandchildren whenever possible, and helping support my Mom due to her having brain surgery for aneurysms. Ten years ago, he also found a new home in the Christian Lighthouse Church. He loves spending his days being involved with his church family as a Trustee on the Board. He and my Mom just celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on August 17th.
My brother and I have started this Go Fund Me account to ease the financial burden on our parents. In order to beat this devastating cancer, my Dad will be undergoing CAR-T Cell Therapy which will involve travel to and lodging in Little Rock for treatment at UMAS for several weeks which are expenses that will not be covered by his medical insurance. Because my Dad is already on disability, he and my Mom simply cannot afford these additional expenses while also paying the ordinary costs of maintaining their home in Drasco, not to mention what will be tens of thousands in out-of-pocket medical bills.
From the bottom of our hearts we humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family and, if possible, give what you can. Any amount will help.
We thank you for your support!
