Hello, my name is Jennifer Kurtz and I hope you read my story. I'm 39 years old and I’ve been married for 15 yrs. to a great guy and am the mother of two wonderful children Chloe 11 yrs. old and Devin 7 yrs. old. My children are typical kids, my Daughter is a promising young dancer, and my son is an avid soccer player. I hope what you read below will encourage you to help a family in need right now.
Several years ago, I started having problems with my balance and left side weakness …the doctor’s found 4 non-malignant tumors in my brain. I had two separate brain surgeries at Shands Medical Center in Florida. In September 2013 I was referred to the hospital to find out why my potassium was so low, after many tests it was discovered that I had a rare cancer called adrenocortical carcinoma that I had been diagnosed with. After the surgery to remove the tumor along with my adrenal gland and kidney, I attempted to take the Chemo pills advised so that the cancer would not spread. The pills made me very sick and contributed to my weight loss and I could not conduct my life in a proper manner.
My husband started working from home whenever I needed some help. He works for a very understanding and compassionate company. While I was recovering from the Chemo pills I contracted pneumonia, twice. Recently I was sent to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. More tests were required and then we found out the adrenal cancer has come back and now spread to my liver and lungs. I am a diabetic and these tests are very challenging for me to go through, physically. I am now scheduled to begin Chemo Therapy this week. I'm scared and nervous and hope my weight does not drop any lower than it is right now. I am hoping that the Chemo will help me in the long run.
I am a very positive woman, but all of these tests, medical procedures and medications are very expensive and the bills are overwhelming, as I can no longer work at my job. I am reaching out for some help and hope that those who have gone through major health challenges will pitch in to help someone who has always donated time and money to other charities and people in need.
