Hello, my name is Janet Wright. Though I was born in Jamaica, I was raised here in the USA. Over the past 15 years, I have been reconnecting with my beautiful island and have made several great friends in Negril. I am reaching out with a heartfelt plea for support following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

I am grateful to report that my family is alive and safe. However, many of my friends and fellow islanders have been left in dire straits, with their homes destroyed and their clothing and food lost. They are struggling without the basic necessities that provide security and stability. The devastation is overwhelming, and they need urgent assistance to rebuild their lives from the ground up.

The people affected by this disaster face immense challenges, with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They struggle to find shelter, secure basic necessities like food and water, and begin the long road to recovery. The journey ahead is daunting, but with your help, we can bring hope and relief to those who need it most.

I am organizing a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds that will directly support these individuals in their time of need. While I initially planned to travel to Jamaica on November 20th to personally deliver the funds, I have been advised to delay my trip. The airport is flooded, all hotels and businesses in Negril are closed, and my complex remains without electricity and water. I have been told to wait until mid-December or so.

The funds raised will be used to purchase essential items like food and water, which are critical for survival. Additionally, those affected can choose to use the funds to start replacing roofs and other vital repairs to restore their homes and sense of normalcy.
