Hey Everyone,
So, normally I’m never the type to ask for help like this, but we really don’t know what to do at this point. As anyone who knows him is already well aware, Liam is suffering from Diabetic Retinopathy. This means that his diabetes is causing deterioration inside of his eyes, causing his retinas to detach, resulting in vision loss. As of right now, Liam is legally blind. But we’ve been doing everything in our power to make sure his vision doesn’t worsen. He’s undergone laser surgery, invasive surgeries, eye drop treatments, etc in an attempt to save his eyesight.
On top of this, his diabetes has put him in the hospital twice in the past year. One week long hospital stay because of diabetic keto acidosis and an ambulance ride to the hospital after an absolutely terrifying seizure in the middle of the night.
To top it all off, his job recently ignored his request for a medical leave of absence and terminated him with no notice, severing his health insurance just days before he’s supposed to go in for another surgery.
The bills are adding up and soon, if we can’t find more income, the choice is going to come down to, do we drown ourselves in medical debt, or let Liam go blind?
We’ve been applying for any kind of assistance we can try for, but the processes have been long, tedious, and not very fruitful. So here we are. If anyone out there is able to give, even a small amount, to help put a dent in the rising tide of medical bills, it would mean the world to us.
If you know Liam, you know he’s one of the kindest and most generous people out there. No one deserves this situation less than him, and yet he’s still out there everyday with a smile on his face, cracking jokes and trying to take care of others. Now it’s our turn to return the favor. Please, if you’re able, try and help us. 25 is far too young to go blind, we have so much more to see and do.
