Hello I'm Ann Whatmore (Wandering Whatmore)
I’m setting out to cycle the entire coast of Ireland—solo, unsupported, and carrying everything I need on an electric trike.
No support vehicle. No team. Just me, the road, and a long way to go.
But this isn’t just an endurance challenge.
I’m living with severe eosinophilic asthma, and I have only around a sixth of normal lung function.
That means every mile is different. Breathing isn’t something I can take for granted. Hills, wind, cold air—they all have a real impact. What would be a tough ride for most people becomes something much more demanding.
The e-trike isn’t there to make this easy—it’s there there to make it possible.
I’m riding in support of Asthma + Lung UK.
Millions of people live with conditions that affect how they breathe. Severe asthma, like mine, isn’t just “having an inhaler”—it can shape every part of daily life.
This ride is about showing that even with serious limitations, there is still a way forward. It’s about raising awareness of conditions that often aren’t fully understood, and supporting the work being done to improve treatment, research, and support.
This is a fully self-supported journey, but doing it safely with a condition like mine takes planning, the right equipment, and the ability to adapt when things get difficult.
Your support will help cover:
* Reliable gear for long-distance, self-supported travel
* Food and day-to-day supplies
* Occasional accommodation for proper recovery
* Maintenance and repairs for the e-trike
* Safety and emergency backup costs
This won’t be easy.
There will be days where progress is slow. Days where breathing is the hardest part. And moments where continuing will take everything I’ve got.
I’ll be sharing honest updates along the way—not just the highlights, but the reality of what this journey looks like.
How you can help
If you’re able to donate, thank you—it genuinely makes a difference.
If you can’t, sharing this page helps spread awareness for both this journey and for people living with severe lung conditions.
This isn’t about ignoring limits.
It’s about working with them—and still moving forward.
Let’s see how far I can go.
