Dominic Rivera Forever

On Sunday, November 3rd, Dominic Rivera died unexpectedly from an unknown medical emergency. He was a cherished brother, son, and partner—and a friend to more people than you might think was possible. Dominic was a beloved member of the music scene in New Orleans, having devoted much of his professional life to The Joy Theater, where he worked for the past 10 years. In the days that followed his passing, we have seen the immense outpouring of grief, making tangible just how beloved Dominic is in our community. At the core of this community is our sister, his partner, and the love of his life, Lauren Burgess.

Dominic had a way of making everyone around him feel welcome, cared for, and loved. To be in his presence was to know his incredible generosity of spirit. It is our hope that you will join us in helping Lauren to feel that same love and support as she survives what no doubt will be the hardest days and weeks of her life. We know it is what Dominic would have wanted for her.

• Living expenses for Lauren for the next four months, including all of the basics like rent, groceries, and utilities.

• Therapeutic and medical support for Lauren.

• Food and vet care for Dominic and Lauren's beloved pets.

• Travel expenses associated with Lauren’s travel to New Mexico for Dominic’s services.

• The cost for Dominic’s celebration of life in New Orleans (date is to be determined, sometime in early 2025).

• Additional expenses as determined by Lauren for any purpose, including donations to charity in Dominic's honor.
