Help Empower Blind Youth ETI 2016!

Tax deductible
Help us raise $50,000 to change the narrative surrounding disability for blind and sighted youth in Nicaragua and Lebanon!

Of the 285 million visually impaired in the world, an estimated 19 million are children. Only 2% of the visually impaired are educated. In fact, less than 10% of disabled youth worldwide receive an education. Empowerment through Integration (ETI) ’s mission and programs are designed with the purpose of opening the door for youth to experience life and pursue their dreams with purpose and richness. We are invested in instilling confidence and teaching students how to build and follow their dreams, despite the many obstacles that they will face.

ETI strives to change the narrative surrounding disability both for blind and sighted youth. We provide the emotional support necessary to bring out the potential of the youth, empowering them to be confident in their abilities, with the belief that if we focus on the positive abilities of others, the world will be a better place.

ETI achieves its mission through two main programs: Camp Rafiqi and a Social Project Program. Camp Rafiqi is a fun, recreational camp that brings together kids from different backgrounds for an amazing 2-4 weeks filled with games, sports, art, music, theatre, and dancing! Camp Rafiqi operates in Nicaragua and Lebanon. The Social Project program is a 6-9 month program where youth solve a problem within their community with the support of their team members and a mentor. The teams will meet monthly to work on the project and will have the opportunity to present it to their community and receive an award!

In order to run our programs, ETI relies on donors and supporters who believe in our mission of empowerment, integration, and narrative change. Because we want our programs to be accessible to all of the interested youth and families, the programs are free. There are already enough barriers for the campers—cost should not be a reason that they are not able to participate in something that can be so life-changing.

For the upcoming year, we are hoping to serve over 160 kids, 40 college councilors  and around 80 parents. To achieve this goal, we are hoping to raise $50,000 to cover the cost of the materials and transportation for our campers and staff in Nicaragua and Lebanon.
