Ethan Sings at Carnegie Hall
Donation protected
Ethan is singing at Carnegie Hall with the 2016 High School Honors Performance Series Concert Choir in February!
“The magnitude of this hasn’t really hit me yet," he said. “Just thinking about all of the people who have performed there and will perform there in the future is mind-blowing. Music has always been a major part of my life. I love making music for myself and for other people.”
With Ryan transitioning from full-time employment to starting his own PR business, our family decided to scale back travel plans upon his acceptance and challenge Ethan and Ruby to raise money for their travel expenses. They've been busy babysitting, shoveling and doing odd jobs for neighbors and friends, putting their funds toward this educational trip. Thanks for the jobs!
Ethan auditioned last year after his choir director nominated him. He's joining an elite group to sing Tenor 1 in the concert choir - one of five ensembles, of which three are instrumental and two are choral: women's choir and concert choir. More than 18,000 nominations from 49 states, Guam, four Canadian provinces, and several foreign countries were processed, with nearly 750 performers selected.
Ethan's love of music and performing started as a toddler when he repeatedly marched around the dining room table acting as drum major to the rousing tunes of the U of M Gopher marching band. After a few years of that, Ethan officially began studying music in second grade and now he's a member of the South High Pop Singers and Varsity Choir under the direction of Laurie Meyers.
The opportunity to experience New York City is sure to inspire Ethan, whose true passion is musical theatre. He first took to the stage in elementary school with Morris Park Players, a community theatre. Since then he’s performed locally at Children’s Theatre Company, History Theatre and Guthrie Theater among others.
The three of us head to New York for six days in February. Ethan will learn from world-renowned conductors, work with other finalists, and tour the city. Ruby and I are looking forward to our arts-infused experience too.
Thank you for reading about Ethan's story and for your support! Our family and friends have been there for him (and us) in so many ways over the years. Whether you've listened to him rehearse, applauded from the audience, taught him about the arts or donated funds for this once-in-a-lifetime trip, we are truly grateful. He's on a journey that's taking us interesting places.
And the bonus of a GoFundMe donation is that you don't have any wrapping paper, poorly-designed storage containers or cookie dough to deal with.
