Hi, my name is Ethan, and I’m 11 years old.

This April, I’m going to cycle 200 miles with my dad to raise money for two charities that I really care about:

I really love the ocean and sea animals, and I think it’s important that we protect them.

My Challenge

Over April, I’ll be cycling 200 miles.

Some days might be hard, especially if it’s raining or I feel tired, but I really want to finish it and raise as much money as I can.

Why I Chose These Charities

Coral Gardeners help grow and protect coral reefs.

Coral reefs are like homes for lots of sea animals. Without them, many fish wouldn’t have anywhere to live. They grow new coral and plant it back into the ocean to help reefs come back.

The Ocean Cleanup helps remove plastic from the ocean.

There is a lot of plastic in the sea, and it can hurt animals like turtles and fish. They build big systems to collect plastic before it causes more damage.

Something That Really Inspires Me

I also think it’s really cool how these charities started.

Coral Gardeners was started by young people, including Titouan Bernicot, who saw the coral reefs near their home getting damaged and decided to do something about it.

The Ocean Cleanup was started by Boyan Slat, who came up with the idea when he was still a teenager.

They both started with just an idea and believed in it, and now they are helping the whole planet.

It makes me feel like even kids and young adults can make a difference too!

Why I’m Doing This

I want to help protect the ocean and the animals that live in it for Earth Day.

Even though I’m just one person, I think if lots of people do small things, it can make a big difference.
