Dear family, friends and extended community:

We are writing to you with a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit.

This past June, during what we thought would be a routine pediatric check-up, we learned that our sweet 7-year-old son, Ethan, had not grown at all over the last year. A blood test was ordered just to be safe. Hours later, we were told to rush him to the ER — his creatinine levels were dangerously high.

After being admitted to the PICU, Ethan underwent a biopsy, and we were hit with the devastating news: he has end-stage kidney failure. We were in complete disbelief. Additional testing followed, but the cause remains unknown.

The hardest part? Ethan doesn’t feel sick. He doesn’t understand why this is happening — why his body is failing him when he still just wants to be a kid. Explaining this to him, while trying to hold ourselves together, has been one of the most painful parts of this journey.

His best chance for a full life is a living kidney donor.
