Ethan's 2nd Lung transplant
Donation protected
For years, 21-year-old Ethan Slater has battled a deteriorating lung function caused by an autoimmune disease. In December 2022, he underwent his first double lung transplant, hoping for a new beginning.
Unfortunately, the recovery was more difficult than expected. Ethan remained in the hospital until April 2023 and had to stay in Toronto, close to his medical team, for several months. After finally returning home, he faced ongoing health challenges that required repeated hospital visits.
By the summer of 2024, it became clear that another transplant was necessary. Ethan was placed on the waitlist for a second double lung transplant, which he finally received in October 2024. Just in time for Christmas, he was able to return home to London, filled with hope for a brighter future.
Ethan was making steady progress until recently when he developed a lung infection. Further tests revealed a pulmonary embolism, adding another serious complication. He was initially hospitalized in London, but his medical team determined that he would receive the best care from his transplant specialists in Toronto. As a result, Ethan has either been or will soon be transported back to Toronto General Hospital.
This journey has been an immense physical, emotional, and financial challenge for Ethan and his family. The months spent in the hospital—both waiting for new lungs and recovering afterward—have placed incredible stress on them.
Through it all, Ethan’s parents, Patti and Tim, and his brother, Zachary, have been by his side, offering unwavering love and support.
Any help for this family during this difficult time would be deeply appreciated.
