Ethan Roche's Medical Relief Fund

Don protégé
* First and foremost, thank you to everyone who has offered prayers, support, or who has already donated to the GoFundMe account previously set up to by Ethan’s mother’s family. We wholeheartedly appreciate their efforts thus far. We have set up this secondary fund - all proceeds will also go towards Ethan’s medical expenses to include hospital, surgeons and rehabilitative costs - in an effort to further share this with those close to the Roche/Rich families. As a 22-year Army Veteran and a retired Special Agent with Army CID, it is also my sincerest wish to share this with my Military and Law Enforcement communities. With my deepest gratitude, CW3 (Ret) Stephen Roche. *

On Thursday morning, March 11th, Steve’s son, Ethan, was in a catastrophic motor vehicle accident. His small car collided with a tractor trailer truck on a dark and rainy highway. The amazing first responders had to employ the Jaws of Life to remove the door of his car in an effort to extract Ethan’s body from the scene and rush him to the closest trauma emergency room. We are grateful to the first responders for their quick action and life-saving methods, which surely contributed to Ethan surviving this horrific crash.

Ethan immediately underwent 6 hours of brain surgery; his neurosurgeon reconstructed his skull and removed splintered bone fragments and debris from his brain. The surgeon stated it was probably the worst damage she had ever seen as it impacted his entire forehead. Ethan requires several more surgeries, this is as much as the surgeons dared to do until he is conscious and they can better assess the next steps. Ethan sustained a traumatic head injury, fracturing the front of his skull and receiving extensive damaging his left eye. As of 15 March 21, Ethan remains in a medically induced coma – prognosis unknown. His medical team will continue to monitor his condition and once the swelling from the surgery subsides, they will begin to assess brain activity and determine the long term effects.

Ethan is loved by so many and has already received an outpouring of love and support from friends and family. We are so grateful for each and every one of you.  He is a good kid – vivacious and full of promise and we so desperately would like to see the best-case scenario for his recovery. Ethan will have a very long road ahead of him but he has a loving father and mother (Stephen and Diane), step-parents (Jillian and Javier), two adoring brothers (Jack and Finn) and a sweet little sister (Bianca) who will be by his side every step of the way.

At this time, it is unlikely military retiree health insurance will cover the medical costs.  We are asking for an exception or consideration and we are fighting the good fight, but it does not look promising. As of today, all medical costs incurred will be on Ethan and his family to pay out-of-pocket. Please consider contributing to this fundraiser. Any donation would be greatly appreciated, no matter how small. Please spread the word by copying the link to your Facebook page.

With heartfelt thanks for your support,

Jillian Rich, Stephen Roche and Family
