Our treasured Ethan Legend Hoffman, 25, of Columbus, Ohio and Wilmington, NC, joined his beloved grandmother Elsa Fedors in Heaven on January 4, 2022. Ethan was born in Columbus, Ohio, and recently moved back to Columbus after living in Wilmington where he graduated from Ashley High School and was a vibrant member of the local music community.
Ethan was an incredibly positive spirit, well known and loved by everyone. He had a personal mission of spreading happiness and love to those around him. He was passionate about playing guitar and was hoping to return to school for a degree in music. As recently he talked of finishing his associates degree and transferring to Ohio State University, the same school many of his family attended.
If you knew Ethan, you knew him as a trusted friend. He colored his hair purple, pink, silver or green all as expressions of his zest for life. He was unpretentious and accepting of all those he met. He expressed himself to others with a warm smile and casual demeanor that made all those around him relaxed, comfortable and at ease.
After high school Ethan played guitar in several original bands and used his music as an expression of his creative spirit and love of life. As he crafted his music, he made close friends with his bandmates and fans, and always pushed his music to its creative limits. When not expressing himself musically, he created art on his Mac and was exceptional in the area of studio art.
Ethan used his creative outlets and love of others as a means of managing his depression. He worked hard on combating this disease by focusing on college classes, music, and art.
Ethan is survived by his mother, Janet Fedors of Wilmington, NC; his father, Jacob Hoffman of Hillard, Ohio; siblings Haley, Jake, and Abigail; grandmother, Diana Hoffman; stepfather, Jonathon Hendershott of Sarasota, Florida; aunt Vesna Favret (Tom); cousin Brandon of Westerville, Ohio; aunt Jennifer Hendershott-Kinn (Brian); uncles Jeff (Tammy), Joe (Dardi), and Justin (Hillary) Hendershott; step-grandmother, Janice Welsh; and numerous cousins, friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
To know Ethan was to love him, and all those who had the pleasure of being in his presence and feeling his amazing warmth and compassion are grappling with a great void in their lives now that he has passed.
Life is a journey. Sometimes the ride is wonderful, filled with fun, music, and laughter, while other times the unexpected happens and brings us to our knees as we try to reconcile the logic of why our loved ones leave us too soon. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation to the establishment of a foundation to honor Ethan and help others who are battling with mental illness and issues of addiction. The foundation's purpose will be to help young people struggling with these incredibly challenging circumstances. Specifically, we hope to award scholarships to young adults and help them overcome such situations and, for those like Ethan, to use the Arts as a means of rehabilitation.
