Baby Ethan's Heart of Hope

Donation protected
Ethan is now waiting for a donor heart. He had complications after the Glenn surgery and is currently on ECMO (life support).

I have been by Ethan's side since he's been in the hospital (Feb. 4, 2017). Ethan's dad visits him on his days off because he is saving his sick/vacation/parental leave for when Ethan comes home.

Any donation is greatly appreciated. It will help with medical expenses, travel and dad to day expenses.

This is Ethan's story....

(Original post)
During my 22 week ultrasound my ob/gyn found something abnormal about our baby's heart. So I was referred to a high-risk doctor in Phx. That doctor confirmed the abnormally and referred me to a cardiologist at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

On July 5, 2016, the cardiologist confirmed that our baby has three congenital heart defects known as hypoplastic left heart syndrome, TAPVR (total anomalous pulmonary venous return) and coarctation of the aorta. Basically, our baby's left ventricle is underdeveloped (or has half a heart) and can't be used. The doctors suggested to do 3 stage open heart surgery. The first surgery to be done 7-10 days after birth, 2nd surgery at 4-6 months and 3rd surgery 3-6 years old.

After hearing this news, we were devastated. Likely any other parent, you wish something like this didn't happen and you start to question everything.

Throughout this pregnancy I had infections. At 34-37weeks, doctors were concerned about my amniotic fluid being low so I was send to Banner University Medical Center for monitoring on two separate occasions. At 38 weeks, I had a kidney infection and stayed in the hospital for 5 days. During these times, my husband was by my side which meant time off from work.

On October 4, 2016 after being induced and in labor for 22 hours, we welcomed Ethan Elijah Clizzie into this world. He was a healthy boy weighing at 7 lbs. 7 oz. and 19.4 inches. I was able to hold Ethan for a few minutes before the NICU team whisked him away to get him on medication to help his heart. The next day, he was transported to Phoenix Children's Hospital (PCH) in the NICU.

This is where Ethan is today. He is scheduled to have his 1st surgery on Thursday, October 13.

With everything that is going on, my husband is stressing about how he can support our family while at the same time be here for Ethan and his wife. Not only do we worry about Ethan but we have two girls at home, Makenna 5 years old and Makenzie 1 year old. Being 5 hours away, it has been difficult to be away from them but they are in good hands with many family members.

I am asking for any donation to help with finances (food, gas, medical, and at home expenses). My husband has used half of his sick leave and will soon be taking leave without pay. As a result, he is thinking about returning to work soon. But I would rather have him here with me for support and be here for Ethan as well. He has been very supportive and comforts me when I'm get emotional about Ethan's condition.

Any amount is greatly appreciated. Your donations will ensure that dad's primary focus is Ethan. I will update this page as they become available. Thank you.
