Walk By Faith Therapeutic Riding is a faith based Non-profit organization that serves children 4-18 years of age with a wide array of disabilities as well as in the near future, Veterans and active service personnel.
Childrens Program-
Our goal is to assist these children in gaining indepedence and self confidence through teaching them how to partner with the horse. We were blessed to have our first session complete and successful with happy riders and happy horses this past summer. We continued to grow and offered a second summer session as well as opened up to offering private winter lessons through the rental of the Crookston Winter Shows building during the cold months.
We have have the pleasure of serving a wonderful group of kids this year and we would like to tell you one of their stories:
Miss K, is our 4 year old big hearted beauty, whom has captured the hearts of many volunteers this summer as well as a few horses. Miss K you see, was born with an extra chromosome. This extra chromosome does not define her, nor does it write her story. Miss K choses to write her own book, which we title "Don't think I can't, because I will!"
Miss K's chapter with us began in April of this year. K's mother had heard that Walk By Faith was in the process of starting up for it's first year. Her mother believed K could ride with us and so she and her husband chose to empower her!
Miss K had her first riding lesson in June of 2015. Now in most fairy tale's there is a villain or wicked step-mother to overcome, for Miss K on her first lesson, it was the break from routine. That was the big monster in the arena. Miss K proceeded to cry big alligator tears throught he first 50 minute riding lesson. She spent most of the first lesson, clenching the hands of her two sidewalkers and curled up on the horse. We kept the horse moving and the sidewalkers continued to reassure her that she was doing great. The end of the lesson came and Miss K could not get dismounted fast enough it seemed. After K had left the ranch, we received something incredible, a message from Miss K's mom stating that K had said that she indeed liked it. The next lesson we made sure to cheer her on and Miss K's acceptance showed! She was no longer screaming and crying and was enjoying the ride.
Now as Miss K continued through the summer she continued to, time after time, prove that she could do anything we asked her to, as long as there was repetition. She went from clenching the sidewalkers hands and hunching over, to sitting tall and using verbal cues. Miss K's balance was challenging for her through her first lessons, but now has started to perfect a two point stance.
Miss K along with the rest of these amazing kids need our help. They need this opportunity to shine and to flourish.
Our go fund me financial goal is focused on being able to fund Walk By Faith's first year full-time. The program would be able to go from serving 8 children currently to serving 40-50 children year round! We can do this together with your support. These children deserve the opportunity to SHINE!
Veterans/Active Service Personnel Program-
With our first summer under our belt at Walk By Faith, we decided it was time to roll out our plan to incorporate a Veterans Program. We are happy to announce that on January 30th, the Veteran's Training Team will become reality. This team will be trained in depth on the art of gentling horses and helping us to train the horses to accept riders. We have decided to give back to these horses by incorporating wild mustangs into our program for the Veterans to work with. These mustangs are in need of homes and we could not be more blessed to be able to serve them as well as the men and women who serve our country.
This incredible program has the ability to not only showcase the deep internal relationship that a horse and human can obtain but also the ability to change the lives of those involved. Please consider offering your support to these incredible equines and the riders they serve.
