It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the tragic passing of our beloved Etenesh Kebede (54). The world has suffered a great loss.
On the evening of Friday, March 5, 2021, Etenesh’s life was suddenly taken from us due to domestic gun violence committed by her estranged husband (who also lost his life that same evening) in her home.
Etenesh was born and raised in Tembien, Tigray (in Northern Ethiopia). After fleeing from a country divided by civil war, she escaped to Sudan where she lived as a refugee, with her daughter. In September 1993, she came to the United States in search of a better life. Etenesh and her family settled in Seattle, Washington, where she would go on to raise her children and be an integral member of her community.
Etenesh had a graceful spirit and a smile so contagious that she brightened every room she entered. She was widely revered as being charismatic and could make strangers feel welcome. An incredibly kind and caring woman, Etenesh exemplified beauty and strength. She dedicated her life to God, her family, and her community.
Etenesh is survived by her: three children Fetle Gebreziabher (29), Dawit Gebreziabher (26) and Amanuel Gebreziabher (19), mother Mulubrhan Hailu, and brothers Abraha Abera, Tesfu Abera and Mehari Abera.
This GoFundMe was created in hopes of raising money to alleviate the financial burden as we grieve a loss beyond comprehension. Contributions will go towards housing relocation, funeral expenses, and support for her children as we begin to navigate through this tremendous loss.
