The Estes Park Newcomers have gotten behind an effort to put a marker on every fire hydrant in the Estes Valley Fire Protection District -- all 700 of them. These markers stand four feet above a hydrant to make them visible when the hydrant has been covered with snow by a plow or camouflaged by tall vegetation. Fire is a severe risk in Colorado due to dry conditions and the frequency of high winds.
Chief David Wolf said he would love to get a marker on every hydrant in the area. Steve Neilson, treasurer of the Estes Park Newcomers is spearheading the project.
Your contribution can help. Each hydrant marker is $30. The fire department will prioritize where to install them as funds become available. Let's reach our goal by this October, Fire Prevention Month, and help protect our community.
