Chris Estep - father, husband, son, friend... so many different words to describe him. A genuinely good guy, always giving a helping hand.
Now he needs our help.
Chris went into the hospital last week, had to have emergency surgery, and is now out of work until at least Thanksgiving. They had to open him up from rib cage to groin to fix the damage in his body. He found out he had a hole in his intestine, he was septic, and was within hours of "leaving this Earth" (as Chris worded it). We are all thankful for modern medicine and the doctors and nurses that treated him, as he's still with us today.
This is the information Chris provided, word for word:
"Diagnosis:
Abdominal pain
Intra-abdominal abscess
Leukocytosis
Perforated viscous
Sepsis, unspecified organism
Basically I had a hole in my large intestine that leaked everything into my body causing my body to be poisoned. It was so bad he had to pull all insides out on a table and clean me up. Also appendix was in the mess sticking to my insides so he pulled that out too. Cut me from my center rib cage area to my groin area performing emergency surgery. He said I had about 2hrs of life left when he got me on the table so things had to happen quickly. I have to wear a colostomy bag for 10wks. I have home nursing for that time. After that I have to go in for a second surgery to put me back to normal inside. I was a worse case scenario. Worse than splitting ribs on a heart attack victim. He put me on a permanent disability until Thanksgiving. I have a long way to go still. "
Chris has been with his company, Spencer Technologies, for over 20 years. He's a hard worker. He takes pride in all he does and is devastated he will be out for this long, worrying about how he is going to provide for his family. He has a great deal of healing to do and the last thing he needs to do is stress himself out.
That's where we come in. Let's show him the love and respect that he deserves and not let him do this alone. If you can donate anything - $5, $10, $20...or even just share this fundraiser with others that may be able to help, it will help him and his family tremendously.
There are so many people that truly respect Chris that aren't able to visit, drop off food, help out with the kids, because they are all across the country. This is our way of letting him know we care, and will do what we can to help one of our own.
