Hi! Thank you for visiting. Those of you who know me already know I've been on a very long healing journey. Health recovery is my full-time focus as I am currently disabled and unable to work. My healthcare picture is that of someone living with complex, multi-systemic chronic illness. I live with several conditions that include debilitating symptoms like chronic fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, neck dysfunction, migraines, dizziness, sleep issues, autonomic dysfunction, brain fog and extensive food, chemical and environmental intolerances. I am asking for support to access my essential healthcare needs, which are no longer being covered due to a change in insurance that is out of my control. If you would like to learn more about my situation, please read on!
For the last couple of years all of my healthcare has been completely covered by Medicaid. I have only paid ˜$250/mo out of pocket for compounded prescription medications, injected medications, micronutrient supplementation and to maintain my air/water purifiers (needed for chem/enviro health). While being disabled means I now receive limited monthly income, unfortunately it also means losing access to the health insurance that covered ALL of my essential care.
As of November 1st, I no longer have access to any provider that has been an essential part of my care team for the last 2+ years, including my primary care doctor, pain management specialists, physical therapist and mental health provider. To pay out of pocket to maintain my current healthcare, with only minimal health insurance coverage for certain specialists, would cost $1400/mo (in addition to the $170 monthly health insurance premium I am mandated to pay). Obviously, I will not be able to continue receiving this level of care and I am feeling devastated by this loss. Medicaid covered ALL of my current essential healthcare, but Medicare—the health insurance system for retired and disabled folks—simply will not.
I may be able to change some of my providers to ones that accept my new insurance, but it is a long and arduous process to research providers who are knowledgable in the very niche areas of medicine I need them to be, who also take Medicare, and who also are accepting new patients. One that is often met with rejection due to providers who appear to be in network letting me know they decided to no longer participate with my health plan. Due to notoriously low reimbursement rates and denial of services, many providers simply opt out. I also now have copays for every covered service that I access, including medications, and with multiple healthcare appts weekly, the costs add up quickly. Going without the healthcare I need can lead to major debilitating flare ups.
Contributions will go toward physical therapy, pain management specialist, atlas orthogonal therapy, primary and specialist copays, medications.
By the beginning of the year I hope to start a new treatment I was not able to tolerate before due to severe reactions. Over the period of the last several months I have been building up the foundational resources my body needed to better be able to cope with the stress of treatment. I will have to go VERY slow, and, there is hope!
If you are able, please chip in to help me continue accessing the care I need. No amount is too small. Please be aware that GoFundMe subtracts a percentage from all transactions to maintain their platform. Therefore, gift donations are greatly appreciated via zelle (contact me) and venmo (@modernvoid). Please write 'gift' in the memo (zelle), or use gift emoji and/or gift option (venmo).
