In February of 2012, our family experienced a heartbreaking loss with the passing of our mom, Terese Thole, who courageously fought Colon Cancer. Just two months later, in April, her sister Mary Erickson (Katie’s Godmother) lost her battle with Brain Cancer. These two women were the glue of our family, and their losses forever changed us.
Later that same year, in October of 2012, Katie was diagnosed with Stage III Colon Cancer—the same diagnosis her mom had faced. Even while grieving, Katie met this challenge head-on with strength and determination, enduring major surgery followed by months of chemotherapy. Against the odds, Katie beat cancer.
In December of 2013, our family was blessed with the birth of Katie’s son, Crosby. Katie is an incredible mother, and her children are her world.
In 2015, devastating news returned when the cancer metastasized to Katie’s liver, advancing to Stage IV Colon Cancer. Once again, Katie fought with grace, undergoing another major surgery and aggressive chemotherapy. After this battle, yet another blessing arrived with the birth of her daughter, Teagan, in October of 2016.
In 2018, the cancer returned as Stage II Colon Cancer in another area of the colon. Thankfully, it was removed through an outpatient procedure, and no further treatment was needed at that time.
Today, we share another painful update: Katie’s cancer has returned yet again—this time it metastasized to her abdomen—making it Stage IV Colon Cancer once more. Despite everything she has endured, Katie continues to fight with unwavering strength, courage, and selflessness.
Katie has always been the person who shows up for everyone else. Now, as her journey becomes even more challenging, we are asking for help to support Katie and her family through the emotional, physical, and financial toll of this ongoing fight. Medical treatments and surgeries have become astronomical in cost.
If you are able to donate toward Katie’s medical expenses, we would be deeply grateful. Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps. If you are unable to give financially, prayers and positive thoughts are just as appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read Katie’s story and for supporting her and her family during this incredibly difficult time.
With gratitude,
The Thole Family
