9 month old Esperanza arrived at the rescue last week. The first cat since we were able to reopen our doors.
The trappers were actually trying to get another cat, but the feeder wouldn't stop feeding them so the task was proving impossible.
Little Esperanza jumped at the chance, with no idea she'd just saved her own life, or maybe she knew exactly what she was doing, she walked into the trap and settled down.
She arrived at the rescue quite skinny, but our beautiful and loving beacon of hope was actually in dire need of help.
The vets were busy last week so she went to her appointment for what was hoped a routine check up and the start of her vaccinations today. She had started to rapidly fill out a few days ago and we were all secretly hoping for a bad case of worms rather than her being pregnant so young.
Sadly little Esperanza's scan shows she is pregnant with 6 kittens. There is no way her tiny body would have survived on the streets, and even in rescue she was at high risk of not surviving.
We've had to make the heartbreaking decision to do an emergency spay as the kittens are in the extremely early stages.
There's the possibility she is carrying a nasty virus too, which would have been passed on to her kittens.
She's being tested for FIV, felv, giardia and Calicivirus .
We're heartbroken for Esperanza, but we'll get her through it and we have everything crossed any addition ailments can be successfully treated.
Please can you help Esperanza by donating towards her vet bill.
