I am humbly making this gofundme in honor of my cousin's recent passing at the age of 26. My family is devastated, and I just wanted to share her story.

This is Esmeralda Santillan, also known as Lala, who was a daughter, a mother, a cousin, and a friend to many. She was left motherless with her siblings since the age of five. Her mother, Carmela, was killed by her own boyfriend, and her grandmother was left to care for her and her siblings ever since. She had a rough start in life, but even through so much darkness, she was always the light in the room that brought joy/laughter to many. Life wasn’t easy for her; she had struggles and only knew what she felt deep inside. Esmeralda fought valiantly for herself, her child, and the ones who loved her until the monster consumed her. She started abusing drugs, and it completely consumed her whole life. It led her to no longer see her light, the sweet, loving, smart girl she was. She struggled for years with drug addiction and mental health. Her battle was long, in and out of recovery homes, until it was cut short by a man. On November 3rd, just like her mother, a cold-hearted man shot her and stole her opportunity at life. An opportunity to be a mother. Who left a sweet little 6-year-old boy without a mom. This truly is heartbreaking, and I wanted to share her story because she was more than just a drug addict. She put herself in a corner so dark you couldn’t see her, that she didn’t remember how to turn her light back on; hers was just dimmed at the moment. Esmeralda’s life had a purpose, and her story isn’t burdened.

My family solemnly appreciates any kind of help that will go towards her funeral expenses and her son.

Estoy humildemente haciendo este gofundme en honor al reciente fallecimiento de mi prima a la edad de 26 años. Mi familia está devastada y solo quería compartir un poco de su historia.

Ella es Esmeralda Santillán, quien también era conocida como Lala, quien era hija, madre, prima y amiga de muchos. Se quedó sin madre con sus hermanos desde la edad de cinco años. Su madre, Carmela, fue asesinada por su propio novio y su abuela se quedó al cuidado de ella y sus hermanos desde entonces. Tuvo un comienzo difícil en la vida, pero incluso a través de tanta oscuridad, siempre fue la luz en la habitación que trajo alegría / risas a muchos. La vida no era fácil para ella, tenía sus luchas y solo ella sabía lo que sentía en el fondo. Esmeralda luchó valientemente por ella misma, su hijo y los que la amaban hasta que el monstruo la consumió. Comenzó a abusar de las drogas y eso consumió por completo toda su vida. La llevó a no ver más su luz, la dulce y amorosa chica inteligente que era. Luchó durante años con la adicción a las drogas y la salud mental. Su batalla fue larga, dentro y fuera de las casas de recuperación, hasta que fue interrumpida por un hombre. El 3 de noviembre, al igual que su madre, un hombre de corazón frío le disparó y le robó la oportunidad a la vida. Una oportunidad para ser madre. Quién dejó a un dulce niño de 6 años sin mama. Esto es realmente desgarrador, y quería compartir su historia porque ella era más que una drogadicta. Se puso en un rincón, tan oscuro que no se podía ver, que no recordaba cómo volver a encender la luz; la de ella estaba atenuado al momento. La vida de Esmeralda tenía un propósito y su historia no está agobiada.

Mi familia agradece solemnemente cualquier tipo de ayuda que se destine a sus gastos funerarios, igual que a su hijo.
