Hi everyone,
De Esdoorn is a non-profit organisation offering Dutch language and culture lessons to children, teenagers and adults (in person and online). Our tuition fees cover all of the necessary expenses to run our classes, such as teacher salaries, room rentals and materials. However, during the pandemic it became clear that we need to update our classroom technology to make our programs even better for our students.
Our need is for 4 large tablets (one for each of the classrooms) and one LCD projector. The $5,000 fundraising goal this year is intended to get us started with 1 tablet and the projector.
The tablets will support our “flipped classroom” teaching model* and will make it easier to bring online and digital lesson materials into the classrooms. It also means teachers and students can access information on-demand to improve the learning experience. The projector will support our teachers in the classroom and at our Dutch Cultural Days, which are part of our curriculum.
As we are a non-profit, we are therefore now looking to you, our larger community, to help us bring these classroom improvements to the current and future students and families of De Esdoorn. Please feel free to share our fundraiser with your families & friends!

*The ‘flipped classroom’ is a type of blended learning where students are introduced to content at home and practice working through it at school. At De Esdoorn, teachers record and post instructional videos to help with assigned homework, and at school they receive guided practice and direct feedback. This model is great for multi-level groups, ensuring each student gains enough instruction and feedback on their work. It also means students who are unable to come to school, due to health or self-isolation requirements, can continue their learning at the same pace of the class.
