Escaping Abuse: A Mom's Fight for Safety

Update: Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Hey everyone!

So, River and I are still in the thick of the divorce process. The courts have been closed for the snow, so I am still awaiting a response to the divorce petition. The plan is to move to Georgia as soon as possible due to breathing issues, but it will probably be a few months. The house isn't listed yet because I have been sick.

River and I's basic needs right now are food, gas, and other necessities, like shoes and clothes. Right now, food is taking the forefront, and we have been unable to leave the property due to a lack of gas. I am researching work-from-home opportunities that I can pursue as soon as I am well again. Anything helps us, gift cards, 2.00, anything. We are so grateful for the love and support. So much love, Aurora

Hey, Dear Friends!
I appreciate and love all of you dearly.

So, River and I got food stamps last week, and it feels so good! We are still going to a local food pantry to fill in the gaps.

I was hospitalized 6 weeks ago for severe pneumonia and a cerebral hemorrhage. My neurologist is monitoring the hemorrhage, and I am taking it very easy until further testing is done. There is a new medicine that should help, I am waiting on insurance approval.

I wanted to thank each and every donor because there have been many times were I am sitting at the doctor and I am unable to pay, and just in the knick of time, a GoFundMe donation hits my account. This has happened so many times! Thank you. thank you, thank you.

We are still in the divorce proceedings. My ex and I have been separated for almost 4 years, and the divorce process has been going on for about 8 months. There is still no resolution, my soon-to-be ex would like to leave River and I homeless and broke. Not being dramatic here, its the reality, but brighter days are already here. The final divorce proceeding should take place on May 5th.

I've been too sick to put my house on the market, but with medical support and healing, I will get it on the market by May and hope to sell by the end of Summer and move to Georgia at the end of August. I've found a good school system for River in Georgia, and I am building a support network there. We are looking for a place in Georgia to move to once the house sells.

As far as the living situation, my ex lives downstairs and River and I are still being verbally and emotionally abused at times, but we are putting up strong boundaries and trying to distance ourselves as much as we can. River and I had a wonderful counseling session last week, and I am very hopeful that we can heal together.

I have five more weeks in my Intensive Outpatient Trauma-DV program with Charlie Health. It's helping in ways I never imagined. River also is having counseling and support at his school.

I feel very grateful and fortunate for all of the support, it is saving our lives.

Main Story:
Hey everyone, I have been in an abusive relationship/marriage for 17 years. I became disabled because of the abuse and was denied access to medical treatment and food, clothing, and my son as well. So, after a lot of struggle, I decided to change my story and save myself and my son's life. When I filed for divorce in December, my son and I were abandoned. My son, three rescue dogs, a mouse, and I need help. Thank you.

My son and I are trying to get access to medical care, food, gas, and basic necessities. We are stranded and this has greatly affected River. We will also have no home after April 9. For the past 3 months we have visited a local food pantry. Because the divorce process is taking longer than expected, we are blocked from getting government resources. I have several neurological conditions that will resolve after things improve. I am trying to get care for migraines, cp, myofascial pain syndrome, and seizures.

I am currently enrolled in a PTSD program for survivors of domestic violence and I hope to enter my son into the program as soon as possible. Although there are DV shelters- we did not receive assistance after years of trying. Our three large rescue dogs are also being neglected/abused and we cannot receive housing. My son will also need dental care due to the abuse. And I am missing molars due to the abuse. Thank you.

My son, myself, three rescue dogs, and mouse are planning and trying very hard to relocate to the East Coast in June-August. We are sick because of the elevation, our breathing issues will resolve for the most part at sea-level. We are tired of living in fear. With Gratitude, Aurora, River, Rose, Raffi, Rey, and Ham-Time

The abuse was always present but became very severe after the birth of my son. I would routinely be pushed into the wall when I tried to pick up my son among other things.
