A new life: help 2 families escape the war in Sudan

Donation protected
We are working to help relocate our cousins who are trapped by Sudan's civil war. Since April 15, 2023, this conflict has unleashed untold suffering, displacing millions and plunged them into a state of dire need. Sudan has the largest internal displacement crisis in the world, with 25 million people in need of humanitarian assistance and facing an impending famine (OCHA).

This fundraiser supports two families who jointly care for an adopted niece. Sarah, a devoted homemaker, and her husband Mohamed, a lawyer, have four children: 8-year-old Fatima, 6-year-old twins Nasra and Nour, and 3-year-old Mekki. Then there's Sibha, a passionate teacher, and her husband Abdelazeem, a university professor, with four children: 10-year-old Samah, 7-year-old Saja, 4-year-old Mohammed, and 8-month-old Kareem. Both families also lovingly care for their adopted niece, Suaad, a brilliant 13-year-old who has shown incredible resilience in the face of such terrifying violence and heartbreaking displacement.

This vicious civil war has profoundly disrupted their lives. Both families have lost their homes and jobs. To support themselves, they have had to rely on precarious means such as mining, remittances from family abroad, and humanitarian aid from the UN. The children have been out of school for over a year. If anyone is sick, they cannot travel to the nearest doctor without facing militias and gunfire.

After losing their home and fleeing bombing in the city, they sought refuge in the countryside in Sudan. Their temporary refuge was short-lived when Mohamed was kidnapped by the genocidal Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and held captive. His wife, Sarah, narrowly escaped a similar fate, staring down the barrel of the RSF’s gun. Although they both were released, the grim reality dawned upon them—Sudan offered no safety, only peril. They refuse to let their children become orphans. This war has already robbed all of Sudan’s children of a year without school or medical care.

To ensure their safety and provide the children with access to education, we're urgently working to relocate them to Uganda or another neighbouring country such as Libya or Egypt. We are currently supporting three other families and relatives in Uganda who fled Sudan, and they are prepared to offer assistance in hosting our cousins and providing them refuge. Our immediate priority is to get the children back into school, offering them a semblance of normalcy amid the chaos of this war.

Your contributions are their lifeline. They will cover transportation out of Sudan, rent, school tuition, and basic living expenses. Any surplus funds will be allocated towards their eventual sponsorship application to Canada. For logistical transparency and to comply with GoFundMe policies, the funds will be transferred to Sudan via Amal Express.

With the war expanding, we cannot risk another brush with militias. Time is of the essence. Please share and help us bring them to safety.
