Dos de nuestras familias de Head Start, que vivían en el mismo apartamento en el Bronx, experimentaron un incendio en un edificio de apartamentos hace unas semanas.
Las otras familias de nuestro programa Head Start se unieron y donaron algo de ropa para que sus hijos pudieran seguir asistiendo a la escuela, ¡pero lo perdieron todo! Tienen una niña de 5 años (hizo un dibujo de su edificio de apartamentos en llamas) y dos niños de 2 y 3 años. Les han ofrecido un apartamento en un refugio, pero es viejo y sucio y no es el lugar más seguro para criar a sus hijos. Aunque los padres trabajan duro, son inmigrantes, ganan el salario mínimo y no tienen acceso a muchos programas y servicios a los que tienen acceso otras familias. Quieren desesperadamente tener su propio apartamento, pero no ven cómo va a suceder pronto, ya que les llevará meses reunir el dinero necesario para el depósito y 3 meses de alquiler por adelantado. También necesitan algunos artículos esenciales como camas y mantas, y muebles, así como algunos juguetes para los niños. Estamos tratando de recaudar $ 10,000 para ayudar a estas familias a tener un nuevo comienzo para sus maravillosos hijos.

Two of our Head Start families, who were living in the same apartment in the Bronx, experienced an apartment building fire a few weeks ago.
The other families at our Head Start program pulled together and donated some clothes so their children can continue to attend school, but they lost everything! They have a 5 year old girl (she draw the picture of her apartment building on fire), and two boys aged 2 and 3 years old. They have been offered an apartment in a shelter, but it is old and dirty and not the safest place to raise their children. Even though the parents work hard, they are immigrants, they make minimum wage, and they do not have access to many programs and services other families have access to. They desperately want to get their own apartment, but don't see how that is going to happen anytime soon as it will take them months to raise the money needed for the deposit and 3 months rent in advance. They also need some essential items such beds and blankets, and furniture as well as some toys for the children. We are trying to raise $10,000 to help these families get a new start for their wonderful children.
