Nya's Recovery Fund

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and I would greatly appreciate you please sharing with your family and friends.

Hello, my name is Nicole and I am a single mother who is fundraising for my 20-year-old daughter named Nya. On Saturday, December 18, 2021, Nya was a passenger in a severe car accident that caused fatalities on the Cross County Parkway in Mount Vernon, NY. The accident has caused Nya to become incapacitated. Nya lost two friends due to this accident, one who died on the scene and one who succumbed to his injuries three months later.

Nya was an unrestrained backseat passenger found below the dashboard, as stated on her discharge papers. Nya's 19 year old friend was the driver. Nya was 19 years old at the time of the accident. As we now know, the driver of the vehicle lied to us, stating he had a driver's license, which he didn't. Unbeknownst to us, the car he was driving was uninsured and unregistered. The Driver was driving recklessly at over 100 miles per hour. The vehicle Nya was in hit another car and then a tree.

The accident left Nya in a coma with a traumatic brain injury, bleeding and fluid on the brain. All the bones in Nya's face were broken, causing her to undergo plastic surgery. My insurance will not continue to cover Nya for everything needed for her recovery.

I am happy to say as of July 27, 2022, after seven months of being in a coma, Nya is no longer in a coma and her trach collar has been removed. Nya still has a feeding tube and will have to learn how to walk, talk and eat. Nya's right side is contracted and she cannot move it.

Before this accident, Nya was a young high school graduate. While in school, Nya was awarded athlete of the year two years in a row. Nya has several trophies/certificates in the various sports she has played, such as basketball, baseball, soccer and lacrosse. At the time of Nya's accident, she was gainfully employed as a licensed security guard. Nya was an outgoing, happy-go-lucky, friendly, funny, loving, independent, social butterfly with a bright future ahead of her. Due to the accident, Nya has become incapacitated. I have no idea what her future will be. Nya has an extremely long road of recovery ahead of her and I thank God she is here to be on that road.

Currently, Nya is in a superb rehab hospital, and I am unsure how long my insurance will cover her stay there.

In the future, I plan to bring Nya home to receive care in the comfort of her home. Many medical supplies and items will be needed to make this happen. Nya has unpaid medical bills. Any support you can give will go directly to Nya's outstanding medical bills and to the care and support of my daughter.

Thank you to everyone that has donated and also to those who can share Nya’s gofund.  Also, thank you  for your prayers, text messages, encouraging words and checkins I really appreciate it.
