Hi, In short my friend Amy and I are starting a fundraiser to help our closest friend Eryn raise money for lost wages during her battle with cancer. She needs to catch up on medical bills, groceries, car payment, utilities, etc. Thank you!
Every year Amy, Eryn and I go on a girls trip to the lake. Thanks to COVID all plans were delayed until Jan 2022. It was so exciting to return to our annual tradition again - normalcy! Little did we know it was anything but that. During our girls weekend Eryn complained of abdominal pain and some difficulty maneuvering around. She was tired, sluggish. We chalked it up to, well, getting older and working too much. So we went on with our wintery weekend by the lake, binge watching Project Runway.
Cut forward to just 10 days later. January 19th and Eryn is unable to get out of bed due to debilitating pain. She ends up in the Emergency Department. Preliminary diagnosis? Highly sus for cancer. An 18.5 cm tumor on her lady bits.
For those who have been on the receiving end of devastating news you understand. There is a loud pop in your ears, your head is numb and hearing turns to a deafening ring. Being faced with the thought that someone you love has a potential terminal illness makes us feel complete helplessness and horrific sadness.
Thankfully the medical team worked quickly and by the end of that week Eryn was undergoing surgery to remove, Sergio, her unwelcome 18.5 cm tumor. Sergio? Again, watch Project Runway. If you know, you'll know.
Unfortunately prior to surgery, Sergio (the 18.5 cm cancerous tumor attached to her ovary/abdomen/colon) ruptured and not all of the cancer was able to be removed. There are still areas, metastisized areas, that need to be resected.
It was after surgery that it all became real. Official diagnosis: Stage 3C High Grade Serous Carcinoma of the Ovary.
The ringing gets louder. Will she lose her trademark hair? Will she be able to work? Will she feel alone? Will she bounce back? Will she know how much we love her?
Eryn took time after surgery to heal. Over 26 staples were removed mid February and chemotherapy began shortly after.
She will undergo 3 rounds of chemo initially, at least 6 total. As of March 14th she has finished 2 rounds of chemo. She had a port placed in her chest for easier access. Chemo is scary and the aftermath is painful and scary. By March 30 she will have finished the first three treatments. Surgery most likely at the end of April to remove uterus and other tumors. Then 3 more rounds of chemo.
She did lose her hair.
She will need at least one other surgery.
She does know we love her.
She is amazing.
She also needs our financial and emotional support.
Eryn has been off work since Jan 20, 2021. She is a single income household. The medical bills in addition to the usual day-to-day bills are stacking up. She is feeling the pinch: car payment, food, utilities, medicine, co-payments.
Please help us help our friend. I'd like to alleviate some of her stress so she can focus on healing.
Thank you! Amy and Summer
