In late April 2019 Kodiya had a bad cold and fever and went to the doctor, who prescribed medication. This medication worked temporarily but she became pale and less active. We took her back to the doctor who referred her to have a CBC ( Blood levels tested) to see why she was so pale. We got the results and her blood levels were critically low. Kodiya was admitted to PMH on May 7, 2019. While at PMH she received two (2) blood transfusions and several platelet transfusions. She also had a bone marrow extraction, which got tested to see why her blood levels were low. The test came back and she was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. Aplastic Anemia is when the bone marrow does not produce any blood cells ( red, white and platelets). Meaning she can easily get infections, her blood is unable to clot due to low platelets and the red blood cells that carries oxygen to the heart is unable to. Basically her heart is working too hard to keep her functioning. Even though she was in PMH for about 3 weeks in isolation, they could not help her. On May 23rd, 2019 she was transferred to the Nicklaus Children Hospital in Miami, Florida. Doctors here have also confirmed that she is an Aplastic Anemic and would need a bone marrow transplant. While here she had another blood transfusion and several platelet transfusions.

We are awaiting several donor test to come back to determine if they match in order to perform the bone marrow transplant or an alternative treatment to revive her bone marrow. We cannot confirm how long we will be in the United States but treatment is at a minimum of three (3) months. During this time we need assistance with medication, living accommodations and food.
