Aloha is the Essence

A Film tribute to the legacy of Aunty Lynette and Uncle Richard Likeke Paglinawan, Tūtū Mary Kawena Pukui, our Queen Lili'uokalani, and the healing of our Lāhui and beyond utilizing our cultural practice of Ho'oponopono.

Story of Why We are FundRaising:

The world will turn to Hawaiʻi as they search for PEACE because Hawaiʻi has the key; and that key is ALOHA. – Aunty Pilahi Paki

Aloha is the key to balance and harmony and as haumana of Aunty Lynette Paglinawan we know that “Aloha is the Essence, and Ho‘oponopono is the Form”. We have been blessed to take classes with Aunty Lynette who has shared her ‘ike on topics such as the Hawaiian Worldview, Kaumaha, Hoʻomau, and Ho‘oponopono as taught to her by Tūtū Mary Kawena Pukui and her ancestors. Aunty Lynette has taken this ‘ike and with the guidance of Akua, nā ‘aumākua, and kupuna she has guided us to precious and essential tools for life today. We are so grateful to Tūtū Pukui, Aunty Lynette, and the ‘ike from their ancestors and for our Queen Lili‘uokalani.

Our film is a tribute to the legacy of Aunty Lynette and Uncle Richard Likeke Paglinawan, Tūtū Mary Kawena Pukui, our Queen Lili'uokalani, and the many authors, contributors, and people whom made the Nānā I Ke Kumu trilogy book series possible. It is a legacy based on Aloha. It is a legacy based on Ho'oponopono. Aunty Lynette emits the Essence of Aloha. We filmed her for 2 days in May 2023 and cried as she shared messages of Aloha and also kuleana. She has a message for us all and we are so grateful that she believes in us all enough to share her truths and words of wisdom not only for us but for generations to come.

This donation site is for the film but if you are not able to make a donation, it is totally ok! In addition to the film we are making, we have also created a MIHI google folder for Aunty Lynette's retirement from UH West O'ahu and it is never too late to send us one to put in this folder of hers. She loves seeing your faces and hearing your voices.

MIHI to Aunty Video Details:
  • A mihi is a direct statement of enduring gratitude to someone for something learned
  • A mihi is not a gushing of how much you love her. It is clear, instructive + from the heart
  • A mihi is specific to an idea learned through someone, and how that idea is embodied
  • You can also tell her how much you love her after you mihi her, maybe even in your own language (!) (Hawaiian, Spanish, Japanese, French, etc)
