Errol loved the Boston Marathon - running 20 over the last few decades. For years, whether he was running or not, we would always cheer him on at the intersection of Commonwealth and Evelyn in Newton, the 18,5 mile mark. As he approached this spot, he would stop and high five all his devoted fans. We could all spot Errol easily in bright colored South African shorts. We are raising money so together we can place a bench at this spot for spectators to watch the runners go by for years to come. We hope this bench will bring comfort to all that knew Errol at his happiest - running with a huge smile and arms raised above his head.
We will use this fund to continue raising money for additional running memorials and non-profits. Other memorials might include a water fountain along the Boston Marathon route if we can work it out with the City of Newton. Non-profits include Dreamfar, which is a program that mentors high school students through a marathon that Errol was heavily involved with and 261 Fearless, which was created by running icon Kathrine Switzer, who was the first woman to run the Boston Marathon.
If you have ideas of other ways to honor Errol please post them in the comments! We'd love to hear your ideas! <3
